By Air

Holiday fleet from Plymouth to Santander, Spain all year round. Then drive to
Lagos approx 7-8 hours (600 miles).
Public Transport
Air
The most popular airlines now are Easyjet
and Monarch also the internal airlines TAP, Air Portugal
and portugalia connect Lisbon, Porto and Faro. Portugalia operates an airbridge
commuter service between Lisbon and Porto or Faro. No advance booking is
necessary, you just need to turn up.
Buses
Bus travel is the cheapest way of
getting around Portugal. The nationalized bus company, Rodoviaria Nacional, can
take you to almost every town in the country. For regular bus travel within
Lagos it is possible to obtain tourist passes which are valid for all forms of
public transport.
Bus Stops are marked Paragem; buses will not stop unless
you extend your arm.
Trains
Although the state run
railway system, Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses (CP), have not been modernized for
many years, it is comprehensive and cheap - if a little slow.
Children under
4 travel free if the do not occupy a seat. Children under 12 pay half price.
Senior Citizens (over 60) receive a 30% reduction on the production of a
passport or other valid I.D. There are also weekly and fortnightly passes valid
for all trains.
Taxis
They are
beige, with a luminous identification sign on the roof. If this is on, it means
the taxi is occupied. Between 10 pm and 6 am there is an extra tariff of 20%. It
is advisable to ask for a receipt. Baggage transported in the boot has a fixed
rate. All taxis have a price table in two languages.
Personal Transport
Car Hire
Car hire is available from
several car hire firms. To rent a car you must provide an identity card (E.U.
Citizens) or a valid passport, have a green card and be aged over
21.
Portuguese drive on the right. Seatbelts are obligatory as is a helmet
for moped or motorbike riders. Insurance is also obligatory.
